Sleep Apnea
If you have been diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSA), or have concerns about excessive snoring, Dr. Cullum will review your history and will work with a group of local professionals to complete diagnosis and management of this condition.
A difficult cycle of disturbed sleep, results from several factors that allow severe snoring and the airway to collapse. The patient is unable to breath and momentarily awakes to start breathing again. You may note symptoms of excess daytime sleepiness, irritability and poor concentration.
Sleep Apnea is known to cause significant heart, lung and blood pressure problems that shorten life expectancy. A number of treatment options are available and designed to treat the local structure(s) causing the problem. Usually the first course after completion of a sleep study is a special oxygen machine worn at sleep. Dr. Cullum will be involved with treatment when jaw or chin advancement procedures are determined to be of benefit.
