Bone Grafting is one of a few special situations we deal with that also includes Sinus Floor Elevation and Ridge Expansion. These are less common than the other procedures we offer, but equally important to our patients who need them. Bone Grafting is performed when there is an area of the mouth where teeth are missing. When this occurs the bone naturally shrinks and resorbs over time that can lead to bone loss around any existing teeth due to fracture, gum disease, trauma or infection. Previously there have been relatively few options available to patients as these patients were typically not candidates for receiving dental implants.
Today, however, we are excited to offer state-of-the-art bone grafting techniques to create implants of the correct length and width to restore both the function and aesthetic values of the missing teeth where the bone has been compromised. The bone grafting may be performed at the same time as the implant placement, but in more severe bone loss cases the grafting may need to be performed prior to the implant placement. We offer a number of grafting techniques and materials, some more invasive than others. In some cases, the grafting may require four to six months of a recovery process for it to properly heal.
