Facial Trauma Coeur d’Alene

Published on May 12, 2019

Experiencing any type of facial trauma is a terrible ordeal to have to go through. Dr. Daniel Cullum offers several important tips for those cases where facial trauma requires fractured jaw surgery.

In many cases, fractured jaw surgery will require the jaw to be wired. This means there will be elastics that are hooked to the wires on your upper and lower teeth to hold your jaws together. In these cases, it is recommended that you sleep using multiple pillows to elevate the head and reduce swelling.

Patients should avoid moving their jaw back and forth, because this can loosen the wires and prevent the bones from healing properly. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited while you recover.
