Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth are the third molars in the mouth, they can develop during the teen and early adult years, causing complications if not managed appropriately. Early evaluation from your dental provider (dentist or orthodontist) in the form of radiographic imaging (panorex) is recommended periodically starting at a young age.

Malpositioned or impacted wisdom teeth can cause many problems if left untreated. The pressure from an erupting wisdom tooth may move other teeth and can cause overcrowding of teeth, even after orthodontic treatment. Removal of the impact tooth/teeth usually resolves these problems. Early evaluation is recommended. With an oral examination and x-rays, Dr. Cullum can evaluate the position of wisdom teeth and advise you of potential issues.

In most cases, the removal of wisdom teeth is performed under general anesthesia. Once the teeth are removed, you will rest under our supervision until discharged, at which time you will be provided with the proper medication and instructions for a smooth recovery.

Dr. Cullum and his staff make every effort to make the removal of wisdom teeth as comfortable as possible. Relax and be assured of our commitment to excellence and superior patient care.
